About the Area
Planned from the start, thriving ever since
Kanata sits about 22 kilometres west of downtown Ottawa, just beyond the Greenbelt. It was designed in the 1960s by developer Bill Teron as a model planned community — distinct village neighbourhoods, mixed densities, abundant open space, and land set aside for employment. That vision paid off. Today Kanata is home to Canada's largest technology park, housing hundreds of tech companies and attracting a highly educated, internationally diverse workforce.
Divided into North and South by the 417, the community spans neighbourhoods like Beaverbrook, Kanata Lakes, Morgan's Grant, Bridlewood, and Katimavik — each with its own character but sharing the same well-maintained infrastructure, strong schools, and easy access to everything residents need.
