About the Area
Small town living, genuinely meant
Almonte is part of the Town of Mississippi Mills in Lanark County, about 46 kilometres southwest of downtown Ottawa and a 20-minute drive from Kanata. Founded in the early 1800s as a textile hub, its 19th-century limestone buildings, heritage mill conversions, and scenic riverfront have made it one of the most sought-after small towns in the Ottawa Valley.
It draws a wide mix of buyers: families wanting space and good schools, retirees looking to downsize without sacrificing quality of life, and city dwellers ready to trade commute time for a front porch. Almonte is also the birthplace of Dr. James Naismith, inventor of basketball, and the filming location for more than a dozen Hallmark movies.
